3. Watchung Hills baseball cracks the statewide Top 20 at #16 (11-4). First-ever appearance. The breakout team of the spring. YSSR will be tracking them.
4. Watchung Hills softball is the #1 seed in the Somerset County Tournament. 7 wins in 8 games. Blanked Immaculata 10-0 on May 5. Semifinal Wednesday, May 13. What's in the water in Watchung Hills this spring!
5. Claire Shupe crosses 600 career strikeouts as Columbia advances to Essex County semifinals. Cougars (14-3, #2 seed) beat Montclair 5-1 on May 10. Shupe one-hitter, 11 K. We mentioned her last week — one of the top athletes in our beautiful Garden State.
6. Northern Highlands is the boys lacrosse wildcard. Snapped Don Bosco's 31-game Bergen win streak in mid-April. Belongs in the Top 10 conversation. Great season so far.
7. Ridgewood boys lacrosse (10-4) gave Don Bosco a real fight. Stuck closer in the rematch than the 13-4 April result suggested. Strong building block for states.
8. Ridgewood girls lacrosse repeats as Bergen County champion. Beat IHA 13-7 on May 10. Katie Adams: 5 goals, 2 takeaways. Grace Sullivan (USC): 4 goals. 20th title in 21 tries.
9. Pope John XXIII keeps Sussex County in the boys lacrosse conversation. Two-time HWS Tournament champion (2021, 2023) and the standard-bearer for Sussex/Warren/Hunterdon lacrosse. YSSR is tracking Sussex County.
10. Union Catholic sweeps Union County Track Championships. Sophomore Morgan Holley was the only girl in the meet to win two individual titles (100 hurdles, long jump) as a Sophomore.
